How to display hidden files and folders

There are times when rogue spyware will be installed into a directory that is not visible in Windows by default.  This quick instruction guide will show you how to display those hidden folders and files so that they can be properly deleted.

Click the “Start” button and choose “Control Panel” from the Start Menu.

The next step will vary a little based on the version of Windows that you are running.  For Windows XP and Vista you should be able to directly choose the Folder Options icon.  For Windows 7, the easiest way to get to folder options is to type the words “Folder Options” in the search bar at the top right part of the screen as shown in the third illustration  below.

 

 

 

After you open folder options choose the “View” tab

 

 

Make sure that “Show hidden files and folders” is chosen as shown above.

Click “Apply” and “OK” to exit the folder options menu.
