How to Modify Your Registry (Guide)
What is the Windows Registry?
In short, the Windows Registry is like a database that holds all the information and settings for everything about your computer. Hardware information, software information, user settings, operating sytem configuration, and much much more are all stored in the Windows Registry. When spyware installs itself onto your computer it writes information about itself into the registry. In order to to fully remove the spyware that information MUST be removed from the Windows Registry.
Unfortunately though modifying the Windows Registry can be a very “dangerous” prospect. Delete one wrong registry key and you can basically render your entire computer useless. So if you are going to venture into the registry to attempt manual removal please be very careful and make sure you have no distractions.
So how do I edit the Windows Registry?
Windows includes a program to modify the registry. This program can be accessed by clicking the “Start” button and choosing “Run”. (Note: If you do not see the run command you can get instructions on how to make it visible by clicking here.)
Type “regedit” in the box as shown below and click “OK” or hit “Enter”
The Windows Registry Editor will open.
Choose “Edit” from the top menu and then click “Find” from the submenu.
Type exactly what you are looking for in the “Find” window and click the “Find Next” button.
Once the search term is found it will be displayed in the window. It will already be highlighted. Right click and choose “Delete”. (I can not stress enough how imporatant it is to not delete the wrong registry key. Doing so can cause major problems for your computer)
Confirm the deletion.
After confirming press the “F3″ button. This can be found at the top of your keyboard. Pressing F3 will continue searching. Delete any additional entries that are found. Repeat this process until the “Finished Searching Registry” dialogue box appears as shown below.
